Today people are becoming more brand conscious. Increasing number of malls, online purchase and brand outlets in our cities are best examples for this brand conscious society. We are familiar with different brands, fast food chains KFC, McDonalds, etc; clothing brands like Planet fashion, Levis, Lee, Tommy Hilfiger, Jack & Johns , etc; footwear like Woodland, Nike, GAS, etc; supermarkets like reliance, big bazaar etc.

These brand names are familiar to you, your family, and your friends. Even some of you may be loyal fans of one or more of these brands. When you hear these names or see their logos what comes in your mind? That is the positioning of a brand.

When I hear KFC the first think comes into my mind is the picture of the guy {Harland David Sanders, better known as Colonel Sanders (September 9, 1890 – December 16, 1980) who was the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). His image is omnipresent in the chain's advertising and packaging} in the KFC advertisement and a leg piece of the fried chicken. When I hear McDonalds the big yellow M and the picture of the joker comes in my mind. When I hear apple, the first think comes in my mind is the “iPhone” not the apple fruit.

Do you want to make your business a branded one? Do you want to let the people identify your brand easily? So the Name, logo and slogan are the basic things you have to start with, and later it is about making them popular in the minds of the people.

1. Chose a name:

A brand name must be no more than one to three words. It should be easy to memorize, it shouldn’t be complicated, and a connection with the product or service will be much better. For example, pizza hut a restaurant delivering pizzas. A brand name should reflect your target market and what your product is all about.

2. Design a Logo
Logos are powerful symbols. The logo should represent what the product is all about, the logo deliver a message, it must be simple, memorable, timeless, versatile and appropriate. And it should be highlighted in all your advertisements.

3. Create a Slogan

A slogan must be a short and memorable phrase in two to three words, which let the people know why they should buy the product or what the product can do for them. It should bring a positive feelings and confidence into your customers’ mind and it should reflect the brand's personality. For example NIKE, JUST DO IT.

A brand name should be never restricted from one to 3 words. And the minimum set as one could be highly impossible. It should either suitable to vision of the promoter about the business or better suitable to the product or service as you said. You can see very less number of brand names was presented in three words may be. World famous designer "pininfarina" is famous in its area where they were the designers for Ferrari and much more. In fact this name is complicated for any person other than an Italian.

Also the logo never needs to resemble the service or the product of the business. It really should connect to the vision again. But it can be...
